The Explorers pre k classroom uses the Frogstreet Pre-K curriculum for our students aged 4-5. It coves 9 thematic units that integrate all the building blocks from previous classes and adds more family engagement. This curriculum is necessarily more rigorous to get the kids ready for kindergarten. The goal: Be Prepared. The Pre-K learning approach is interactive exploration to show how cause-and-effect happens to people and things. This class has a programmable Frog-E mini-robot, Fanny Frog puppet with clothes and a house, audiobooks, and all materials are in English and Spanish. Social emotional learning is a cornerstone to help develop self-regulation skills. It also includes special needs adaptations to help those who need it. The class has a variety of books covering everything from folk tales and feelings to sciences and songs and all materials are culturally diverse so all kids can feel included. Pre-K is the only class that has assessments to give a measurable guide for where the child is developmentally. Equipment or technology used in this classroom: tablets/microwave/sink/refrigerator/bathroom.
We believe that each child comes to this school with a unique understanding of the world, a set of values, a family lifestyle, and a set of emotional and physical needs. Our goal is to take each child and nurture their individuality. We cannot give a greater gift to a child than self-esteem. When children value themselves and feel secure in their surroundings, they are free to explore, investigate, and learn. In working toward this goal, we will help the children understand God’s love for them.
Our purpose is to provide a safe and nurturing environment, where children can joyfully experience their first major away-from-home education instruction. This will be accomplished in a setting where each child feels emotionally safe, accepted for who they are, and loved unconditionally while maintaining compliance with the State of Texas Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers.
Our teachers exemplify God’s loving concern by using positive reinforcement techniques to modify inappropriate behavior. We use positive examples and language. We praise children often. We also redirect by using positive phrases.
Monday through Friday
7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Nutritious snacks will be served twice daily to children ages 12 months and older. The snack menu is posted in each child’s classroom. We are required to follow the Texas Dept. of State Health Services Commission standards regarding meal and snack patterns established by the Dept. of Agriculture. For more information visit https://www.fns.usda.gov/cacfp/meals-and-snacks. These standards help your children to sample a variety of healthy foods. You may provide an alternative snack if you think your child will not eat the scheduled snack.
Your child will participate in outside and gym activities that may include team sports, mildly competitive games, and free play. These activities help to develop a child’s physical strength and coordination. Students normally will have 30-90 minutes of physical play time per day depending on your child’s age and other factors such as weather conditions for example.
All children will attend Chapel each morning at 9:30 a.m. This is a time when the children and ILDS employees learn about God’s love through Bible stories, by singing Bible and other children’s songs, and participating in school-wide activities. Parents/guardians, grandparents, and other family members are welcome to join us anytime for chapel.
Every day, each classroom at ILDS has Circle Time. During this time, the children will learn about the theme of the week, the Bible lesson of the week, sing songs, read a book, play games, or participate in Show-and-Tell.
Weekly Bible lessons are based on Bible verses that are read and taught about for the week. Teachers use songs and related Bible stories to illustrate the meaning of the verse in a way a child can understand.
Frogstreet Pre-K Curriculum: Frog Street Pre-K curriculum is a comprehensive, dual-language program designed to meet the needs of diverse learners while supporting developmental learning domains. It includes strategies for differentiated instruction, and adaptations for special needs and English Language Learners, and more. Cultural responsiveness strategies are also included at point-of-use, with prompts and reminders to help teachers maintain an anti-bias mindset. The Frog Street pre-k curriculum is organized around thematic Teacher Guides. Each guide offers four weeks of instruction for each month that covers the whole school year.
Rest is an important part of the day and well-being. Naptime takes up about 2 hours of the day. For infants up to 12 months they get 2 naptimes a day while the rest of the students get 1 as they get older. For occasions when a student doesn’t want to sleep during nap time, they are asked to lie quietly and rest for one hour after which time they may participate in an alternate, quiet activity until nap time is over.
Classes whose children are four years of age and older may participate in field trips throughout the year. Field trip information will be included on lesson plans and posted on bulletin boards in or around your child’s classroom. Parents are welcome to participate in the field trips but are required to provide their own transportation and admission fees (if any).
We welcome the participation of parents/guardians, other family members, and friends in the activities and functions of ILDS. We invite and encourage them to visit our school at any time during our hours of operation to observe their child, ILDS’s operation, and program activities. Please let your child’s teacher and ILDS Management know if you have any questions or concerns about your child, or if you would like to be more involved at ILDS. If at any time a parent/guardian wishes to schedule a conference with their child’s teacher and/or ILDS Management, they may do so by calling the office at (512) 251-4929.
